It is still surprising how many people are affected by depression and what is more upsetting how many more people are deeply depressed inside while outside we look up to them and consider them either lucky, either successful.

As it states in NHS site:' If you're depressed, you may feel worthless, hopeless and constantly tired. In most cases, if you have milder depression, you can probably carry on but will find everyday tasks difficult. If you have severe depression, you may find your feelings so unbearable that you start thinking about suicide. '

The way to go around depression is to decide strongly you are to get it out of your system. The reason you really have to take a decision as it will take few efforts at first on your behalf to learn how to get back to normal life free of negative feelings and free of that sense of worthlessness. The depression can develop due to many reasons and that is not the purpose for you to read the information here. You are here to give yourself a promise you want to get yourself out of such state and to absorb few tips in order to take initial steps.

After you give yourself a promise to work on yourself, find something which can put a smile on your face (it does not matter if you have lost your beloved one recently! or you have gone through any other emotional trauma! and I do not mean to sound harsh or selfish here). Once you achieve your smile either by watching a comedy or by looking at the beautiful picture... or reading funny jokes you can clear your mind a little bit and start concentrating on recognising how special you are. Yes! You are special! You just need to remember or recognise why! If you still stragling -phone a good friend or talk to a person you can trust and ask them why exactly they like you (do not ask them regarding your minuses, or what is it they do not like in you!). Once you accept the good sides of you, please read the following:

'You need to love yourself for others to LOVE you!', 'You need to learn to respect yourself for others to 'RESPECT' you!'... YOU are the most precious 'possession' that you have! that is yours and only yours!...... If you don't look after 'YOU' how do you expect to enjoy your life and give happiness to others or to enjoy fully the community you are living in?

It is not the time to think about others! Not just now! You are simply not strong enough to have the 'guilt feelings' because or because...... Start recovering yourself and by bring yourself together you will become very valuable, loved and respected member in your family, your social circle and at work...

Now that you have accepted the information above, find the way to distract your negative thoughts attacking you during 'depression' by thinking something which you would like to experience in the nearest future, as they say 'think yourself happy'. It is not a wishful thinking! You simply replacing a newly formed 'vacuum' in your mind as you just got rid of some negative thoughts. You need to fill in your mental space with positive attitudes and pleasant thoughts so your mind will not have space left for negative ones.... That might take time, use affirmations, or socialise with your friends, travel around the world or pay a visit to a library and have a good read (it's free after all)...

Now (providing you have done it thoroughly for few days or weeks) sit down in a calm environment by yourself and write down the list of things you would like to have done this month, this year, next year. One condition! Those things or events have to matter to you! They really give you reason why you can enjoy your life...

Start acting them out! ......(For example if it is to have better relationship with your children you are after, do some activities they like together with them). Start enjoying your life! Start finding more and more reasons why YOUR LIFE is so GREAT!
